AMVETS HAYWARD POST 911 PROGRAMS:

 

1. AMVETS Hayward Post Honor/Color Guard:
- Support military funerals & other veteran related events.
Post Chairman of the program is Michael L. Emerson.

2. Senior Veterans Assisted Living Support Program:
- AMVETS Hayward Post 911 has adopted, and has been adopted by, the Landmark Villa -  Senior Residential & Assisted Living Facility in Hayward, California. They have about 120 in residence which about 30 are military veterans. Post 911 will visit the facility and its veterans on a regular basis and hold special events so that the veterans there know they are appreciated, honored and not forgotten.

3. Blood Drives Program:
- Sponsor and host blood drives for the Red Cross.

4. Care Bear Program:
- Partner with and support "Good New Bears" to setup stuffed toy donation events to give to veterans and children.

5. Community Awards:
- Give AMVETS Certificates of Appreciation at formal Post ceremonies to local Police, Fire, Teachers, EMT's, etc.

6. Hayward 9/11 Memorial Maintenance and Cleaning:
- Post is the official sponsor of the Memorial. The Memorial has been completed and dedicated. We will support its maintenance, cleaning and polishing.

7. Honor Flight of Northern California Network:
- Collect donations and also volunteer as guardians to take WWII veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the World War II Memorial.

8. VAVS Hospitals and Clinic Program:
- AMVETS Hayward Post 911 members are formally AMVETS ambassadors to the Livermore VA Hospital. Post members will visit the facility to support VA events and put on programs of our own for the VA's veteran patients.

9. S.A.V.E. / Suicide Awareness:
- To help veterans with coping with depression and thoughts of suicide.
Post Chairman of the program is Heather Reyes.

10.
Saluting Military Recruits (SMR):
- To sponsor and help with the once a year San Francisco Bay Area event to welcome military recruits when they join the military after they graduate from High School or College.  We invite the recruits, their families, their recruiters and other veterans to attend the event.  We have welcome speeches from High ranking officers, military heroes, and politicians.  We give each recruit a Certificate of Appreciation and a SMR t-shirt.

11. U.S. Naval Sea Cadets Corps - Hancock Squadron & Training Ship Midway:
- Support local veterans, active and reserve military and help with various veterans event.

12. Scouting - Boy & Girl Scouts:
- Support local troops and present AMVETS Eagle Scout Certificates.
Post Chairman of the program is James Hodges.

13. Stand-Down, East Bay:
- Help with bi-yearly event for homeless veterans at the Pleasanton/Alameda County Fair Grounds.

14. Support ALL Military Troops & Families:
- Conduct welcome homes and farewells. Help local families left in the area when father or mother is deployed. Get and donate items such as phone cards, care packages, etc.

15. National Desert Storm Veterans War Memorial:
- Post will be a sponsor of the Memorial. We will support it being built and if possible will collect donations to donate towards its completion.

16. Vietnam War Commemoration:

- Conduct a Vietnam War 50th Year commemoration event to honor and remember our Vietnam Veterans.

The event was held at Lone Tree Cemetery in Hayward, CA on Flag Day, Saturday, 14 June 2014 from 1PM to 2:30PM.

17. AMVETS Legislative Committee Program:
- Actively support the AMVETS, Department of California Legislative Platform each year, which consists of issues concerning California Veterans. Personally contact local Legislators and others on a regular basis for their support of issues throughout the State. Attend the Annual AMVETS Legislative Day at the California State Capitol.

18. Citizen & Business US Flag Awards:
- Give letters of thank you and invitations to citizens and businesses who fly the US Flag everyday. Invite them to attend one of our monthly Post meetings, then the Post will present them with a framed Certificate of Appreciation for their patriotism in flying the US Flag everyday in front of their home or business.

19. "Clover" Donation & Recruiting Program:
- Setup tables to inform community about AMVETS and ask the community to support veterans by donating to our AMVETS Post. Also we will use the program for recruiting new members.
