- COMMANDER MICHAEL EMERSON RECEIVES COUNTY SUPERVISORS AWARD - |
AMVETS Commander Michael L. Emerson was asked to attend the Alameda County Board of Supervisors Meeting. He was then presented a framed Certificate of Appreciation form Supervisor and Army Vietnam Veteran Richard Valle thanking Michael for all of his volunteer/donated work helping veterans, the community and designing and building local Memorials. - 2016 AMVETS NATIONAL CONVENTION in RENO, NEVADA - |
AMVETS Hayward Post 911 Life Member and Post Commander Michael L. Emerson went to the 72nd AMVETS National Convention in Reno, Nevada. While there he was able to meet and spend time with a lot of the National Officers and Staff. Michael also meet many Department (State) Officers and members from all over the USA. Plus Michael met the new AMVETS Spokesperson and Gold Star Daughter actress Kerry Cahill whose father was killed at the Fort Hood shooting. Reno, Nevada on 7-13 August 2016.

- HONOR GUARD FUNERAL SERVICE - |
AMVETS Hayward Post 911 Honor Guard members John McPartland (left), Michael L. Emerson (center) and Ron Galvan (right), with helpers and Michael L. Emerson's sons Nickolas (far left-US Flag) and Tyler (far right-Navy Flag). The honor guard decided to let the boys attend and help, to further their love of Country and to grow their respect for Veterans. We did the funeral at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Hayward to honor a deceased Navy Veteran in Hayward, CA on 30 July 2016.

- SF GIANTS 4TH OF JULY / INDEPENDENCE DAY

AMVETS Hayward Post 911 Commander

3-1). We were there to help an
organization called Operation: Care and
Comfort that we support and to
also honor military veterans. Commander

- 2016 VETERAN OF THE YEAR * CHUCK KADLECEK - |
AMVETS Hayward Post 911 Life Member Chuck Kadlecek (US Marine WWII and Iwo Jima Battle Survivor) was recommended by Post Commander Michael L. Emerson as the 2016 VETERAN OF THE YEAR. Chuck was selected for the honor by our local State Assemblyman Bill Quirk. I volunteered to drive Chuck to the State Capital Building in Sacramento for the awards luncheon. Chuck's son Tim (in blue shirt) met us there. Also we got a chance to meet Korean War Navy Cross recipient William "Denny" Weisgerber during the luncheon in Sacramento, CA on 29 June 2016.

-Saluting Military Recruits Event- |
American Veterans (AMVETS) had our 4th
Annual "Saluting Military Recruits" (SMR)
event. About 115 Veterans, Recruits,
Families, and Recruiters attend. Each
recruit received a free SMR t-shirt. Plus
during the procession ceremony each recruit
was presented a free SMR military challenge
coin. The SMR organization also supplied
free drinks and snacks to all who
attended. Founder/Chairman of SMR and the MC
of the event was AMVETS Hayward Post 911
Commander Michael L. Emerson (wearing his
AMVETS Honor Guard uniform). Special veteran
guests were: Navy Pearl
Harbor Survivor Senior Chief Mickey Ganitch,
IWO Jima Battle Survivor Marine Corps
Corporal Chuck Kadlecek, Army Vietnam
Veteran Paul Gravelle, Captain Koyama,
currently the Commander of ROTC at
University of Berkeley (Desert Storm, Iraq
and Afghanistan Veteran), and retired Army
Colonel John McPartland and current BART
Director (Vietnam & Desert Storm
Veteran). Hayward Veterans Memorial

At our Post's June 2016
monthly meeting we honored and awarded
Hayward Firefighter and Marine Corps veteran
Nicolas William Stevens with our Firefighter
of the Year Award. We also awarded a local
citizen Claus Flachenecker for flying a USA
flag everyday in front of his home. Plus
we also had the swearing in ceremony by Past
California Department Commander Greg Raffa
of most of our new Post officers for

- Dedication of the Hayward
9/11 Memorial- |
AMVETS Hayward 911 Honor Guard members
Domingo Cardoza, Jim Hodges and Heather
Reyes participated in the Posting of the
Colors and the Flag Raising during
the Hayward 9/11 Memorial Dedication in
downtown Hayward, California on Memorial
Day, Monday, 30 May 2016. AMVETS Post 911
member Art Benin was also there in his VFW
Honor Guard uniform representing the VFW,
and Post 911 member Ron Galvan was also
there in his American Legion Honor Guard
uniform representing the American Legion. AMVETS
Hayward Post 911 Commander Michael L.
Emerson was the MC of the dedication
and the Founder, Designer, and also the
Build Manager of the Memorial. The
Memorial was built to Honor and Remember the
Heroes of 9/11, Military Veterans, and First
Responders. Michael donated 100% of his
design, time and labor. It was a beautiful
day and a wonderful ceremony. About 400
people were in attendance.

awareness” event and AMVETS recruiting. We
wanted to inform everyone about how about 22
veterans per day commit suicide. And make
sure any student veterans know how we are

- VISITING SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY NATIONAL [VETERAN'S] CEMETERY - |
AMVETS Hayward Post 911 Commander Michael L. Emerson went to visit this really beautiful and tranquil veteran's national cemetery. I was very nice and has many American Heroes buried there in Gustine, California on 27 February 2016.

- Northern Area Meeting-Winter 2016 - |
AMVETS Hayward Post 911
was asked to host this quarter's meeting at
our Veteran's Building. We were honored to
answer the call. At 9am we had breakfast
snacks, donated Starbucks coffee, juices,
etc... At 10am we started the meeting, the
meeting went very well and had 34 AMVETS
attend, our Post's Honor Guard did an
excellent job Posting and Retiring the
Colors. We also visited the Hayward 9/11
Memorial (www.Hayward911Memorial.com) which
is one of Post 911 post programs, that is
just about 200ft behind our veterans
building. At about 12noon the meeting ended
and we had a very tasty Mexican lunch with
grilled chicken, pork, rice, beans, cookies,
sodas, water, etc.... Many Dept. Officers
attended including Dept. Commander Terry
McCarty (in photo on right at the
Memorial). Job well done by our Northern
Area Commander Gene Clements. Hayward,
